ABSTRACT Phureja Group potato is endemic and important for northern Andean countries such as Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, where it is grown over a wide range of elevation. The objective of the study was to compare the biomass accumulation of five potato cultivars in three contrasting environments in elevation from a latent response variable of vector nature, analogous to “heat efficiency index”. Destructive samplings were carried to obtain biomass. A biomass accumulation model was proposed using a latent response variable that integrates total biomass per plant with thermal time, analogous to the “heat use efficiency index”. The proposed latent response variable allowed measuring the efficiency in biomass accumulation and making comparisons between elevations and cultivars, with a nonparametric longitudinal variance analysis. The middle location was where the highest efficiency in accumulation of total biomass was observed. The accumulation of total biomass was slow at the higher elevation location during the vegetative stage, but it increased considerably after the initiation of the growth of tubers. The study showed a clear genotype-environment interaction, suggesting that biomass accumulation changes with elevation according to the cultivar. The methodology used in this study has the potential to be used in the longitudinal comparison of cultivars and environments, even when variations in elevation or temperature alter the length of growing cycles.

RESUMEN Uno de los principales desafíos que enfrentan los mejoradores es la respuesta diferencial de los genotipos de un entorno a otro, conocida como la interacción genotipo × ambiente (GxE). El procedimiento óptimo restringido de máxima verosimilitud/mejor predictor imparcial lineal (REML / BLUP) permite la estimación simultánea de parámetros genéticos y la predicción de valores genotípicos. Los predictores BLUP se presentan como una alternativa al estrechamiento de los valores sesgados. Se basa en las variaciones por genotipo para determinar su valor de respuesta como complemento al índice de selección (SI). El índice de selección (IS) ESIM (Eigenvalue Selection Index) permite seleccionar genotipos basados en dos o más variables o caracteres de selección siempre y cuando la matriz económica posea los valores adecuados para resaltar la variable respuesta deseada. Se evaluaron tres etapas de selección en un programa avanzado de mejoramiento de papa diploide, se obtuvieron los valores BLUP para las variables rendimiento y gravedad específica (GE), y a partir de ellos los parámetros genéticos y el IS. La ganancia genética para rendimiento correspondió a 1.228 kg/planta con una heredabilidad (H2)=0,82, mientras que la GA para GE fue 0,02 con una H2 = 0,935. El IS a partir de los valores BLUP seleccionó en las etapas finales tres nuevos cultivares (Criolla Dorada, Criolla Ocarina y Criolla Sua Pa) que fueron registradas ante el Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA). Aunque BLUE y BLUP están altamente correlacionadas, el análisis BLUP/ESIM da ventaja al predictor pues reduce las respuestas con efecto ambiental, seleccionando eficientemente genotipos con alto potencial varietal.

ABSTRACT One of the major challenges that breeders face is the differential response of genotypes from one environment to another, known as the genotype × environmental interaction (GxE). The optimal procedure with the restricted maximum likelihood/best linear unbiased predictor (REML/BLUP) allows simultaneous estimation of genetic parameters and prediction of genotypic values. BLUP predictors are an alternative to the narrowing of biased values, which are based on variances of genotype to determine the response value, as a complement to the selection index (SI). The ESIM (Eigenvalue Selection Index) selects genotypes based on two or more variables or selection characters as long as the economic matrix possesses the appropriate values for highlighting the desired response variable. Three stages of selection were evaluated in an advanced diploid potato improvement program. BLUP values were obtained for the yield and specific gravity variables, used to determine the genetic parameters and the SI. The genetic gain for yield corresponded to 1.228 kg/plant with a heritability (H2) = 0.82, while the GA for GE was 0.02 with an H2 = 0.935. The SI from the BLUP values selected in the final stages of the three new cultivars (Criolla Dorada, Criolla Ocarina and Criolla Sua Pa) was registered at the Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA). Although BLUE and BLUP are highly correlated, the BLUP/ESIM analysis has an advantage as a predictor because it reduces responses to the environmental effect, efficiently selecting genotypes with a high agronomic potential.

RESUMEN El uso de materias primas vegetales de Jatropha curcas L. para producir biocombustibles es de creciente interés en Colombia, mientras que hay poca información disponible sobre esta especie como cultivo. Este estudio evaluó la altura de la planta (Hp) y el diámetro del tallo basal (BSD) de J. curcas según lo afectado por las diferentes dosis de nitrógeno (N) y potasio (K) durante los primeros 435 días de crecimiento (DAP). El experimento incluyó un diseño de medidas repetidas con factores de fertilización entre sujetos (dosis de N, dosis de K2O anidadas en la dosis de N) y un factor de tiempo de evaluación. La Hp varió tanto en función de la dosis de N como de la dosis de K2O anidada en la dosis de N, obteniéndose las plantas más altas con aplicación de 150 kg ha-1 N y 180 kg ha-1 K2O. Con los intervalos de confianza simultáneos de Bonferroni, se compararon los tiempos de evaluación indicando para Hp intervalos no superpuestos a 435 DAP (150 kg ha-1 N y niveles restantes de este factor) y a 255 DAP (180 kg ha-1 K2O y el resto niveles de este factor). La aplicación de fertilizantes N dio como resultado tallos más gruesos en comparación con las plantas de control. Los modelos de predicción matemática se obtuvieron para Hp y BSD en J. curcas utilizando un análisis de regresión múltiple. Estos modelos permiten en futuro predicciones rápidas y no invasivas del crecimiento de J. curcas en campo.

ABSTRACT The use of raw materials of Jatropha curcas L. to produce bio-fuel is of increasing interest in Colombia; little information is available on this species as a crop. This research evaluated plant height (Hp) and basal stem diameter (BSD) of J. curcas as affected by different rates of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) during the first 435 days of growth (DAP). The experiment involved a repeated measures design with inter-subject factors of fertilization (N dose, K2O dose nested in N dose) and an intra-subject factor of evaluation time. The Hp varied both as a function of N dose and the K2O dose nested in the N dose. The tallest plants were obtained with 150 kg ha-1 N and 180 kg ha-1 K2O treatment. With simultaneous confidence intervals of Bonferroni, we compared the evaluation times indicating for Hp non-overlapping intervals at 435 DAP (150 kg ha-1 N and remaining levels of this factor) and at 255 DAP (180 kg ha-1 K2O and remaining levels of this factor). The application of N fertilizers resulted in thicker stems as compared to control plants. Mathematical predictive models were obtained for Hp and BSD in J. curcas using a multiple regression analysis. These models permitted future rapid and non-invasive predictions for J. curcas growth in the field.

ABSTRACT Echinochloa colona (L.) Link is one of the most troublesome weed species in rice (Oryza sativa L.) crops. Despite numerous cases of herbicide resistance in E. colona worldwide, in Colombia the reports are scarce and most of them dating from over two decades ago. To screen the resistance of E. colona to bispyribac-sodium, cyhalofop-butyl and quinclorac, in the Saldaña and Purificación counties, a survey was carried out in 23 rice fields, through a grid of 26 squares of 2.56 km2 each. Seedlings from 23 populations were treated with commercial formulations from these respective herbicides at their recommended (1x) dose and twice the dose (2x) under controlled conditions. Relative fresh weight and percent control were evaluated. Populations with relative fresh weight greater than 20% and control below 80%, were categorized as resistant. For statistical analysis, a mixed model was used with populations as a random effect. The distribution of resistance was evaluated by a spatial autocorrelation analysis. It was established that 91% of populations were resistant to bispyribac-sodium, 48% to cyhalofop-butyl and 43% to quinclorac. Sixty-five percent had multiple resistance to two herbicides and 22% to three herbicides. Resistance was randomly distributed, according to the results obtained from the mixed model that showed a homogeneous response of populations within fields and heterogeneous among fields. This indicates that management strategies at field level generate a local selection pressure that determines the evolution of the resistance independently in each field.

RESUMEN Debido a la alta susceptibilidad del cultivo de fresa al ataque de plagas y enfermedades, una gran cantidad de plaguicidas son aplicados durante el ciclo de cultivo. El inadecuado uso de estas sustancias puede generar residuos en los productos agrícolas, los cuales, a través de la ingesta suponen un riesgo para la salud humana. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar y comparar la residualidad de plaguicidas en frutos de fresa provenientes de dos sistemas productivos diferentes, distribuidos en las principales zonas productoras del departamento de Cundinamarca (Colombia). Se recolectaron ocho muestras de cultivos de fresa correspondientes a cuatro municipios productores (Guasca, Facatativá, Mosquera y Sibaté), para comparar los dos sistemas diferentes (producción convencional vs. producción basada en el Manejo Integrado de Plagas y Enfermedades, MIPE). En las muestras se examinaron las concentraciones de 394 moléculas mediante espectrometría líquida y gaseosa. Se utilizó la prueba exacta de Fisher para determinar la asociación entre el tipo de pesticida y el nivel de residuos en frutos, encontrando que más muestras de insecticidas excedieron el umbral de residualidad permitido que las de fungicidas. Se detectaron 22 moléculas diferentes para las muestras analizadas, con 37 eventos de detección, de los cuales ocho se reportaron en cultivos del sistema MIPE y 29 correspondieron a productores convencionales. Los resultados revelaron un total de nueve moléculas de insecticidas y dos de fungicidas en concentraciones excesivas para la normatividad colombiana, pero no se encontraron diferencias significativas entre los dos sistemas de producción. Existe la necesidad de mejorar la calibración de los equipos y de las aplicaciones para evitar las sobreconcentraciones de las pesticidas, especialmente de las insecticidas.

ABSTRACT Because of the high susceptibility in strawberry fruits to attacks from pests and diseases, a large amount of pesticides is applied during the crop cycle and harvest period. The improper use of these substances can generate residues in agricultural products that pose a risk to human health. The objective of this study was to determine and compare pesticide residues in strawberry fruits from two different production systems distributed in the main producing areas of the Cundinamarca Department (Colombia). Eight samples of strawberry crops were collected in four producer municipalities (Guasca, Facatativa, Mosquera and Sibate) to compare different systems (conventional production vs. production based on Integrated Pest Management, IPM). Samples with a concentration of 394 molecules were examined using liquid and gas spectrometry. Fischer's exact test was used to determine the association between the pesticide type and residue level in the fruits, with more insecticide samples that exceeded the permitted threshold than when using fungicides. Twenty-two different molecules were detected in the analyzed samples, with 37 detection events, of which eight were reported in the IPM production systems and 29 in the conventional producers. The results revealed that nine molecules of insecticides and two of fungicides exceeded the concentrations set by Colombian regulations, but no significant differences were found between the two production systems. The calibration of equipment and applications must be improved in order to avoid over-concentration of pesticides, especially insecticides.

RESUMEN Las enfermedades "pudrición negra del fruto" y "moniliasis" son reportadas como limitantes en plantaciones de cacao en Colombia. Fueron evaluados los patrones espaciales de incidencia para estas dos enfermedades en un cultivo de cacao durante un monitoreo de trece semanas en campo. Semivariogramas e interpolación kriging fueron usados para analizar el comportamiento espacial de "pudrición negra del fruto", los estadísticos Join Count e Indice de Moran se emplearon para estudiar el comportamiento espacial de "moniliasis". La incidencia de "pudrición negra del fruto" presentó estructura de dependencia espacial de acuerdo a los semivariogramas durante el tiempo de evaluación, mientras que la autocorrelación espacial de sitios de infección de "moniliasis" se distribuyó de forma aleatoria entre las plantas de cacao según el Indice de Moran. El rango de dispersión estimado de "pudrición negra del fruto" varió entre 21,74 y 40,23 m y los mapas kriging evidenciaron el progreso espacio-temporal de la enfermedad durante las semanas evaluadas. Las condiciones experimentales dadas y la aproximación de los análisis espaciales, contribuyeron al entendimiento de la dinámica espacial de dos enfermedades limitantes en tres clones de cacao en la Orinoquía Colombiana.

ABSTRACT "Black pod" and "frosty pod" diseases are reported as limiting in cocoa plantations in Colombia. Spatial patterns of incidence for these two diseases were evaluated during a thirteen weeks long period of monitoring in the field. Semivariogram and kriging interpolation were used to analyze the spatial behavior of "black pod" and Join Count and Moran's Index statistics were used to analyze the spatial behavior of "frosty pod". The incidence of "Black pod" has a spatial dependence structure according to semivariogramas during the evaluation time, while spatial autocorrelation of "moniliasis" infection sites was randomly distribuited among cocoa plants according to the Moran's Index. The estimated dispersion range of "Black pod" was from 21.74 to 40.23 m y the kriging maps showed the spatio-temporal progression of the disease during the evaluated weeks. The experimental conditions given and spatial analysis approach, contributed to the understanding of the spatial dynamics of two limiting diseases in three clones of cocoa in the Colombian Orinoquia.

RESUMEN Frente a la demanda de los biocombustibles, las especies vegetales no comestibles que no compitan con los cultivos tradicionales en Colombia, aparecen como una alternativa importante, tal como Jatropha curcas L. Con el fin de generar mayor conocimiento sobre el crecimiento de esta especie se aplicaron diferentes dosis de fertilizantes con N y K durante los primeros 435 días después de la siembra (dds) en zona de bosque seco tropical. Con la mayor dosis de N (150 kg ha-1) se obtuvo el índice de área foliar más alto en todos los momentos de evaluación. Los mayores valores de la tasa de asimilación neta (TAN) correspondieron al tratamiento de 150 kg ha-1 de N y se presentaron a los 75 dds con 1,852 g m-2 día-1, sin presentar las diferencias entre los tratamientos de fertilización. La mayor tasa absoluta de crecimiento (TAC) se observó cuando se aplicaron 150 kg ha-1 de N + 180 kg ha-1 de K2O al inicio de la etapa reproductiva (345 dds) con 24,5 g día-1. El área foliar específica AFE no presentó respuesta a los tratamientos, la tasa relativa de crecimiento (TRC) llegó a un valor de 0 a los 402 dds para las plantas sin fertilizar. La acumulación de biomasa en J. curcas estuvo influenciada por la fertilización con N y K, presentando un rápido crecimiento vegetativo inicial (primeros 165 dds), el cual se disminuyó al pasar a la etapa reproductiva.

ABSTRACT Due to the demand in biofuel, the plant species that are not eatable and do not compete with traditional crops in Colombia, such as Jatropha curcas L., have become an important option. To produce more knowledge on the growth of this species, the research was carried out with different amounts of N and K fertilizers applied during the first 435 days after sowing (das) under dry tropical forest conditions. With the highest N dose (150 kg ha-1), the largest leaf area index was obtained in all evaluation period. The highest net assimilation rate (NAR) values were seen in the treatment with 150 kg ha-1 of N at 75 das, 1.852 g m-2 d-1, with no differences presented among the treatments with fertilizer application. The highest absolute growth rate (AGR) was observed when 150 kg ha-1 of N+180 kg ha-1 of K2O were applied at the start of the reproductive phase (345 das), 24.5 g d-1. The specific leaf area (SLA) did not present a response to the treatments. The relative growth rate (RGR) reached zero value at 402 das for the plants without fertilizers. The accumulation of biomass in J. curcas was influenced by the fertilizers with N and K, presenting rapid initial vegetative growth (first 165 das) which decreased with the starting of the reproductive phase.

RESUMEN Durante el 2014 en la provincia de Pamplona, Colombia, se realizó un estudio sobre la variedad de duraznero Jarillo, con el fin de clasificar una serie de variables morfométricas distribuidos en tres fincas de diferenter altitud (Pamplona, 2.170 msnm; Chitagá, 1.870 msnm y Pamplonita, 1.670 msnm). Para el muestreo de árboles se utilizó el hipercubo latino condicional. En las hojas se midió el ancho por la longitud de limbos y el área del limbo usando el software ImageJ. En los frutos se midió el diámetro longitudinal sobre ecuatorial y los pesos secos. Se aplicó la técnica del análisis discriminante lineal, el cual se complementó con el diagrama de cajas por finca con los valores de la función discriminante para las muestras de diferentes grupos y se finalizó con la gráfica de dispersión de las dos mejores funciones discriminantes. Esta clasificación sugiere un manejo agronómico diferenciado entre Pamplonita y Chitagá, sobre todo en la cosecha, pues esta involucra el peso seco de los frutos. Existe un área común entre Pamplona y Pamplonita, lo cual puede atribuirse a que ambas se encuentran en la cuenca del Catatumbo. Los valores de largo por ancho del limbo y área del limbo fueron caracteres fuertemente discriminantes en este estudio, son susceptibles de variar debido a factores ambientales. El estudio concluyó que las fincas Chitagá y Pamplonita se discriminan claramente en lo que respecta a las variables medidas, alcanzando la función discriminante un 89,3% de separación en las variables.

ABSTRACT During 2014, in the province of Pamplona, Colombia, a study on the peach variety Jarillo was carried out in order to classify a series of morphometric variables in this crop, grown at three different altitudes (Pamplona, 2,170 m a.s.l., Chitaga, 1,870 m a.s.l., and Pamplonita, 1,670 m a.s.l). The conditional Latin hypercube sampling approach was used to select samples of the trees. In the leaves, the width was measured with the length of the limbs and the limbus area using the software ImageJ. In the fruits, the longitudinal r on the equatorial diameter and dry weight were measured. The linear discriminant analysis technique was applied, which was complemented with boxes diagram by farm with the values of the discriminant function for the samples of the different groups and ended with the scatter plot of the two best discriminant functions. This classification suggested different agronomic management plans for Pamplonita and Chitagá, especially for the harvest that involved the dry weight of the fruits. There is a common area between Pamplona and Pamplonita, which can be attributed to the fact that both are in the Catatumbo basin. The values of length and width of the limbus and limbus area were highly discriminating characteristics in this study and were susceptible to change because of environmental factors. The study concluded that the farms Chitagá and Pamplonita were clearly discriminated according to the measured variables, reaching discriminant function with 89.3% separation in the variables.

RESUMEN La relación entre el crecimiento del tubérculo y la acumulación NPK en cultivares de papa (Solanum tuberosum L. ssp. andigena) está poco documentada bajo condiciones de la zona andina colombiana y es necesaria para establecer un manejo específico de la fertilización en la obtención de altos rendimientos de los cultivares Capiro y Suprema ante las variaciones de oferta edáfico-ambiental. Se evaluaron 12 tratamientos en diferentes etapas el crecimiento del tubérculo (75-100-125-150 días después de siembra) mediante un diseño en medidas repetidas con tres factores: dos cultivares (Capiro, Suprema); tres localidades con suelos contrastantes (Subachoque, Facatativá y Chocontá) y dos niveles de fertilización, F0 (no fertilizado) y F1 (fertilizado) de naturaleza incompleta por la fertilización diferencial realizada por tipo de suelo. Se presentó correlación positiva entre el peso fresco, peso seco y extracción N, P y K (kg ha-1) del tubérculo además se determinó el índice de extracción de cosecha (IEC). Bajo condiciones óptimas de fertilización se presentaron diferencias significativas (P<0,001) entre las interacciones de los factores cultivar x fenología x localidad para la acumulación de N y P, donde Suprema fue menos exigente en el IEC de N (1,92 kg t-1 cosecha) y el IEC de P (0,43 kg t-1 cosecha) que Capiro, además se adaptó mejor a suelos ácidos de baja fertilidad, en contraste el IEC de K entre 5,28 y 5,34 kg t-1 cosecha no presentó diferencias entre cultivares debido a las características genotípicas en la acumulación de biomasa seca y almidón que los hacen adecuados para uso industrial, además se comprobó que la extracción nutricional depende del potencial genético determinado por la interacción con la oferta edáfico-ambiental.

ABSTRACT The relationship between tuber growth and demand for NPK in andigena group of potato (Solanum tuberosum L. ssp. andigena) is poorly documented under conditions of the Andean region of Colombia. It is necessary to establish a specific nutrient management for high yields to changes in edaphic-environmental supply and improve the production of Capiro and Supreme cultivars. Twelve treatments were evaluated at different stages (75-100-125-150 days after planting) of tuber growth using a repeated measures design with three factors: two cultivars (Capiro, Suprema); three locations with contrasting soils (Subachoque, Facatativá, and Choconta) and two levels of fertilization, F0 (unfertilized) and F1 (fertilized) of incomplete nature by differential fertilization by soil type. A positive correlation between fresh weight, dry weight and extraction of N, P and K (kg ha-1) by the tubers, beside harvest extraction index (HEI) was determined. Under optimal conditions of fertilization significant differences (P<0.001) between factor interactions cultivar x phenology x location for accumulation of N and P were detected, where Suprema was less demanding in the HEI of N (1,92 kg t-1 harvest) and HEI of P (0.38 kg t-1 harvest) than Capiro and was better adapted to acid soils of low fertility, in contrast the HEI of K Between 5.28 and 5.34 kg t-1 harvest did not show differences between cultivars due to the genotypic characteristics in the accumulation of dry biomass and starch that make them suitable for industrial use, in addition it was verified that the nutritional extraction depends on the genetic potential determined by the interaction with the environmental and edaphic supply.

ResumenLa friabilidad es una propiedad física esencial en el manejo mecánico del suelo y su comportamiento está asociado a la naturaleza de otras propiedades edáficas; que requiere ser estudiada de manera integral con diferentes propiedades mineralógicas, físicas y químicas. Se evaluó el efecto del dominio de los minerales arcillosos tipo 1:1 (caolinitas) y 2:1 (esmectitas y vermiculitas), la textura y el contenido de carbono orgánico (CO), sobre el índice de friabilidad (IF) de suelos cultivados con caña de azúcar. El IF se determinó por el método del coeficiente de variación, a partir del límite inferior del intervalo de confianza (IFi). Se utilizaron 7280 agregados de los horizontes Ap y A1, tomados en 18 fincas localizadas en el Valle Geográfico del Río Cauca, Colombia. Se determinó la mineralogía de la fracción arcilla a partir de difracción de rayos X, la distribución granulométrica por el método de la pipeta y el contenido de CO por el método de Walkley & Black. El análisis estadístico se realizó a partir de un enfoque descriptivo e inferencial, univariante y multivariante. No se encontró efecto significativo de la dominancia de arcillas 1:1 y 2:1 sobre la variable respuesta IFi; sin embargo, de manera descriptiva se observaron valores más altos deI IFi en suelos con dominio de arcillas 1:1. No se encontró efecto significativo atribuible a las fracciones de arcilla y limo total (FaT y FLT) sobre el IFi de los suelos, por el contrario, la fracción arena total (FAT) y el contenido de CO presentaron efecto altamente significativo en el IFi, con valores más altos del IFi en los suelos con mayores contenidos de CO y menores contenidos de la FAT.

AbstractFriability is a physical property that is essential to the mechanical management of soil and its behavior is associated with the nature of other edaphic properties; therefore, it must be investigated with integrated studies using different mineralogical, physical, and chemical properties. The effect of the predominance of the clay mineral types 1:1 and 2:1, the texture, and the organic carbon (CO) content, on the friability index (IF) of soils cultivated with sugar cane were evaluated. The IF was determined with the coefficient of variation method, using the lower limit of the confidence interval (IFi) as reference. A total of 7280 aggregates from the Ap and A1 horizons were used, taken from 18 farms located in the Valle Geográfico of the Cauca River region, Colombia. The mineralogy of the clay fraction was determined with X-ray diffraction, the granulometric distribution by the pipette method, and the CO content by the Walkley & Black method. The statistical analysis was conducted from a descriptive and inferential focus, univariate and multivariate. No significant effect from the predominance of clays 1:1 and 2:1 on the IFi response variable was found; however, higher IFi values were observed in the descriptive approach in the soils with a predominance of clays 1:1. There was no significant effect attributable to the total silt and clay fractions (FaT and FLT) on the IFi of the soils; rather, the total sand fraction (FAT) and the CO content showed highly significant effects on the IFi, with higher IFi values in the soils with higher CO contents and lower FAT contents.

En algunas investigaciones agrícolas, un tratamiento aplicado sobre una unidad experimental puede afectar la respuesta de unidades experimentales vecinas. Este fenómeno es conocido como solapamiento. En este artículo se desarrolló un test para evaluar este efecto, sobre el modelo de Draper y Guttman, mediante la imposición de condiciones laterales sobre los parámetros del modelo de clasificación de dos vías para obtener un modelo reparametrizado, el cual puede usarse bajo diferentes patrones de vecindad de las unidades experimentales, usualmente plantas dentro de un cultivo, siempre y cuando sea considerado el vecino más cercano como la unidad experimental directamente afectada y el modelo sea de dos vías. Fueron usados tres métodos para estimar los parámetros del modelo original, a saber, el método de máxima verosimilitud, el método de mínimos cuadrados con imposición de condiciones laterales y el uso de una inversa generalizada para calcular el valor del estadístico de prueba para la hipótesis nula asociada a la ausencia del efecto de solapamiento. Las tres alternativas resultaron invariantes con respecto al uso del test. La prueba propuesta es sencilla de adoptar y se puede implementar en el campo de la agronomía, ya que su naturaleza asintótica está de acuerdo con el gran número de unidades experimentales que generalmente existen en este tipo de investigaciones, donde cada planta representa la unidad experimental evaluada.

In some agricultural research, a treatment applied to an experimental unit may affect the response in the neighboring experimental units. This phenomenon is known as overlap. In this article, a test to evaluate this effect in the Draper and Guttman model was developed by imposing side conditions on the parameters of a two-way classification model to obtain a re-parameterized model which can be used in different neighboring patterns of experimental units, usually plants within a crop, whenever the nearest neighbor is considered a directly affected experimental unit and the two-way model is used. Three methods, namely maximum likelihood, least squares with side conditions and generalized inverse, were used to estimate the parameters of the original model in order to calculate the value of the test statistics for the null hypothesis associated with the absence of the overlapping effect. The three alternatives were invariant with respect to the use of test. The proposed test is simple to adopt and can be implemented in agronomy since its asymptotic nature is in agreement with the large number of experimental units which generally exist in this type of research, where each plant represents the experimental unit being assessed.

La producción de banano para exportación en la zona de Urabá, Colombia, es importante porque representa beneficios económicos y sociales para el país, exigiendo mejorar las prácticas de manejo agronómico especialmente la fertilización. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar diferentes dosis de nitrógeno a través del desarrollo del cultivo durante dos ciclos de producción para ajustar recomendaciones a valores acordes con las necesidades de la planta por fase de desarrollo. Se empleó un cultivo de sexta generación aplicándole cinco tratamientos con dosis de nitrógeno, durante cinco etapas de desarrollo y dos ciclos productivos. Se ajustaron dos modelos lineales de acuerdo a la etapa fenológica considerada y las estructuras vegetativas presentes, evaluando simultáneamente las respuestas peso seco y contenido de nitrógeno. Las diferencias estadísticas encontradas para el efecto de las dosis de nitrógeno, sobre las etapas de desarrollo del banano por ciclo productivo y entre ciclos, para acumulación de materia seca por órgano y por planta, como para el contenido de nitrógeno en planta, permitieron seleccionar las dosis de 321,8 y 483 kg ha-1 de nitrógeno como las de mejor comportamiento. En esta investigación sobresalió la dosis de 483 kg ha-1 de nitrógeno por obtener el mayor contenido de nitrógeno en planta. La presente investigación ratifica la utilidad de las curvas de extracción de nutrientes porque permitieron seleccionar las dosis de mejor respuesta.

Banana production for export in the Uraba region of Colombia represents economic and social benefits for the country and demands improved agronomic management practices, especially for fertilization. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of different doses of nitrogen on crop development during two production cycles in order to adjust fertilizer recommendations to values consistent with plant requirements. Sixth-generation banana Williams plants were subjected to five treatments of nitrogen doses at five stages of development and during two production cycles. Two linear models, according to the phenological stage and vegetative structures, were used, assessing the variables of dry weight and nitrogen content. The statistical differences found for the effect of the nitrogen dose on the dry matter accumulation per plant organ and nitrogen content in the plants for the development stages per production cycle and between the cycles allowed for the selection of the 321.8 and 483 kg ha-1 ha of nitrogen doses as the better ones. In this research, the nitrogen dose of 483 kg ha-1 was the most successful at obtaining the highest nitrogen content in the plants. This research confirmed the practical utility of nutrient extraction curves because they allowed for the selection of the fertilizer dose with the best response.
